Landry Nguemo, ex-Cameroonian footballer, has died in a road accident near Yaoundé, Cameroon’s capital, our reporter gathered on Monday.
The 38-year-old former Indomitable Lions player died in a fatal road mishap when he was involved in a fatal car collision with a sand truck. He died alongside his chauffeur.
Nguemo retired from football in 2020. He played for several clubs during his career, including French sides Saint-Etienne and Bordeaux, who both extended their deepest condolences.
He also played for Turkish and Norwegian clubs before returning to Nancy-Lorraine as a youth coach after his retirement.
The Cameroonian Football Federation and Nguemo’s former teammate, Samuel Eto’o, expressed their sorrow on a social media post.
Eto’o, the president of the Cameroonian Football Federation, paid tribute to his former teammate. He stated that, “Landry was a talented player and a good friend. He will be deeply missed.”
Nguemo’s professional career began at Nancy-Lorraine in France, where he signed his first contract at 19. He went on to play for Girondins de Bordeaux and AS Saint-Etienne before moving to the Turkish and Norwegian leagues.
