Avoid ‘Yahoo-Yahoo’, Monarch Advises Graduating Pupils

The Igwe-elect of Ogbozara Opi in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, Chief Moses Ugwuanyi, weekend, advised children to choose virtuous people as their role models, and shun get-rich-syndrome. He stated this during the graduation ceremony of Inland Academy, Opi.

Igwe Ugwuanyi said although money is a blessing from God, children should study harder to earn decent living.

Quoting him, “Our people are being ruined by the activities of ‘Yahoo-plus’ boys. These ‘boy’ parade themselves in flashy vehicles and build beautiful houses. All that glitters is not gold. I urge our children to emulate virtuous people. You will gain nothing by engaging in nefarious activities.”

A board member of the school, Dr Ifeanyi Ezema, said the school had been making efforts to inculcate virtues in its pupils. According to him, “Our efforts are geared towards bringing up children of reputable character. Our society can only get better if we have positive children who are our leaders tomorrow. Vices are becoming the order of the day, and all efforts should be geared towards stemming the tide. This task is before both governments and individuals.”

The event featured reading of news in the Igbo language, debates, quiz and award presentation by the children of the children of the school.

An award recipient, Hon Sunday Ezugwu, advised the children to be serious with their studies. He said, “The only way the society will get better is by shunning vices. Anything that is bad does not last for a long time. Worship our God in all honesty and be hard working with your studies. We also pray that our leaders become role models for the children.”

Our correspondent reported that a female student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, was recently found dead in the premises of the institution with some of her vital organs missing. Her death was preceded by a similar incident at a popular hotel in the university community where a female student was said to have been thrown out from the second floor of a popular hotel. Her corpse was found on the ground of the hotel. It was alleged that the incidents were masterminded by ‘Yahoo-plus Boys’.
