Ndigbo will not participate in any protests against the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
GOC Nwadike, the president of the South-East Young Leaders Forum, SEYLF, stated this in a release on Thursday.
Recall that some groups plan nationwide protests against the Tinubu administration’s harsh economic policies from August 1 to 10, 2024.
Nwadike stated that, “Stories about this sketchy protest have been flying around with claims and counter-claims coming from both the federal government and the organizers who are yet unknown.
“This has thrown most of our people into anxieties, with many reverting to us for direction and way forward. As a group of intellectual and political elites, we have been monitoring and following some of the remarkable achievements of the President Bola A. Tinubu’s administration, especially as they concern our region and Ndigbo in general.
“President Bola Tinubu signed into law the South-East Development Commission (SEDC) bill which now makes it mandatory for the allocation of special funds from the Federal Government to the South-East for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of our region; a prayer we have been making since the end of the civil war in 1970. President Bola A. Tinubu just did ot.
“As at today, serious moves and negotiations are ongoing between the FG and the governors, political leaders and stakeholders of the South-East Region led by the Imo governor, Sen Hope Uzodinma, as well as the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, for a political resolution that would lead to the release of our brother, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, from detention. The release of MNK is expected to help solve the problem of insecurity in our region.
“Also, efforts are on top gear to balance the inequality in the number of states in the nation’s regions by creating an additional state for the South-East.
“The other challenges confronting the nation’s economy, including insecurity, are general pains that affect the entire body, hence not peculiar to our people.”
He called on Ngigbo not to shut their businesses during the protests, and encouraged them not to become the scape goat of the exercise.
