Int’l Child Trafficker Arrested In Anambra

By Adadareporters

A member of a trans-border syndicate that traffics children between Nigeria and some sub-regional countries has been arrested in Anambra.

According to the state police command, on Wednesday, the suspect, name withheld, belongs to a gang that specializes in child trafficking between the age bracket of 13 and 16 to neighbouring countries like Ghana and Benin Republic.

It was gathered that the arrest followed the concern of the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, about the spate of reports of missing persons, especially within Okpoko and Onitsha. He had tasked the police operatives to nip such in the bud.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said one of the victims of the trans-border child trafficking syndicate “has been safely returned from, Accra, Ghana, to Nigeria and debriefed”.

He said, “The suspect is also currently undergoing interrogations at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for possible rescue of other victims and arrest of other gang members.”
