The senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Victor Umeh, has awarded scholarships to 223 students. The recipients are drawn from 58 communities in his constituency.
The scholarships, totaling N37 million, are in support of brilliant students who lack the financial means to pursue their education.
Senator Umeh expressed his joy in helping deserving students achieve their academic goals, and emphasized the importance of education in fighting ignorance, poverty, and distress.
The recipients were painstakingly selected by a panel comprising stakeholders, clergy, and community leaders, the lawmaker said, adding that it was done under the auspices of Senator Umeh Foundation which has been providing scholarships in the past 17 years with over 300 university graduates, including doctors and PhD holders, benefiting from the programme.
He encouraged the beneficiaries to aim higher, and assured the students that his support would continue and even increase in the future.
