Eastern Union Commiserates With Akwa Ibom State Over First Lady’s Death

The Eastern Union, Nigeria (EU), Friday, regretted the death of the first lady and wife of the governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mrs Patience Umo Eno.

EU said the news of the first lady’s death came to the members as a shock,adding that, “It is indeed very painful, especially now the Akwa Ibom people are looking forward to a sustainable progress from the achievements of the previous regimes.”

EU’s national president, Hon Charles Anike, stated this in a statement.

He said, “EU heartily commensurate with the governor, his immediate family and the entire people of Akwa Ibom State on this irreparable loss. We pray that the good Lord grant her soul eternal rest in Christ Jesus.”

Mrs Eno’s death was announced by the state commissioner for information, Ini Ememobong, on Friday.

According to the commissioner, the deceased passed on at a hospital on September 26, 2024, surrounded by family members.

The statement entitled “Unexpected Sunset” read, “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of the wife of the governor of Akwa Ibom State, Her Excellency, Pastor Mrs Patience Umo Eno, following an illness.

“She passed away peacefully at the hospital on 26th September 2024, in the presence of her family. The family submits to the will of the Almighty and asks for the prayers and support of kind-hearted individuals during this difficult time.

“Further details will be provided by the family as necessary. In the meantime, the family kindly requests privacy as they mourn their beloved wife, mother, and grandmother.

“Governor Umo Eno appreciates all who have stood by the first family in this period and assures all the citizens that despite this huge personal loss, his commitment to the service of the state is unwavering.”
