The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Nasarawa State Sector, Commd Lucie Samuel-Mhii, weekend, survived an autocrash allegedly engineered by kidnappers.
The incident occurred Saturday evening at Wowyen, Akwanga-Lafia road, when she was returning from the burial of a colleague.
Our correspondent reliably gathered that a vehicle had trailed the FRSC boss’ official vehicle, and had signalled the driver to pull over.
“The driver kept driving even when the commander had wanted to know if there was an accident alert from the occupants of the vehicle,” an eyewitness said, adding that, “It dawned on them that they were in wrong hands when the men in the trailing vehicle brandished a gun, asking the driver of the commander to park. In the ensuing showdown, the driver lost control and the FRSC vehicle summersaulted three times.
“The boss, her orderly and the driver sustained minor injuries. God saved their lives considering the level of the damage incurred by the vehicle.”
It was heard that their attackers stepped down from their vehicle, supervised the scene and left shortly, saying in Hausa, “Sun Mutu Duka” (they’ve all died).
A personnel of the command who preferred anonymity said, “The gestapo style of the attempted kidnap of the Sector Commander at the same spot of other victims, some of which happened to personnel of the corps, is one too many and a likely insider connivance cannot be hurriedly overruled. The intelligence unit of the corps and other relevant security agencies should rise to the occasion to unravel the mystery.”
The Sector Commander could not be reached at the time of filing the report.
In a related development, an operative of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), identified as Emeason Chima, was weekend kidnapped around Ekwegbe/Opi axis along Enugu-Ugwuogo highway in Enugu State. Chima is attached to RS4.211 Ugbokolo unit of the agency.
It was reported that the kidnappers had demanded N50 million ransom to release the victim. An FRSC official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the victim was alone when he was kidnapped.
An internal memo within the agency confirmed that the gunmen – using the officer’s phone -demanded a ransom of N50 million.
The memo read, “The Command Is In Receipt Of Information About The Kidnap Of SRMA Emeason Chima,” Emmanuel Al-Hassan, Ugbokolo unit commander, said in the memo.
“Place Of Incidence: After Maduka University, Nsukka Enugu Road through OPI junction, in Enugu State. Information extracted so far confirmed that the staff was driving alone in a Toyota saloon car when he was kidnapped.
“The unit commander has already been contacted by the kidnappers using the staff phone, where a demand of N50 million ransom has been made.
“Further details will be made available as events unfolds. This is forwarded for your information and further guide sir.”
