Mr Charles Ndu was Monday elected the president of Ezimo Unity Forum. The forum, birthed about a decade ago, is a body of Ezimo progressives championing the development, unification and the general renaissance of the community. Ezimo is located in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State.

Charles Ndu, a University of Nigeria-trained pharmacist, was chosen unopposed, and was declared duly elected by the electoral committee headed by Chief Donatus Obetta.

In his acceptance speech after inauguration, Pharm Ndu promised to work with other elected members of his executive to build on the achievements of the past executive led by Hon Onyekachi Ugwu. Ndu extolled the Ugwu-led executive for taking the forum and the entire Ezimo community to the greatest heights.

He said, “We shall tap from the sterling records of the past regime. Under it, Ezimo became bonded, devoid of village affiliations. Our community harmonised her mineral resources proceeds for our common good. Ezimo also became a brand through its Ezimo Carnival which was championed by Ezimo Unity Forum. I call on all members to support my administration the same way you supported the past regime. Without your support, advice and critiquing, we may not get to our dreamt destination.”

Earlier, the out-gone president of the forum, Onyekachi Ugwu, thanked members for their support throughout the tenure of his executive. He said, “We shall never lose focus on the Ezimo rebirth. The Ezimo Carnival, which we organised, has become a global brand with people from all over the world, including Germany, Caribbeans and South America visiting the Ezimo Waterfall which is among the revelations of the carnival. The Ezimo Marathon, which the forum organised, also discovered talents. We use the community’s structures to champion our unity, promote the education of our children, ensure security of lives and property, and embark on developmental projects for our common good.”

Those elected to pilot the affairs of the forum for fours are Pharm Charles Ndu, president; Joel Ikenna, vice president; Tony Nnamani, secretary; Chinedu Aroh, assistant secretary; Thomas Eya, financial secretary; Solomon Ugwueya, treasurer; Chinedu Odo, public relations officer; Ikechukwu Ugwueya, provost, and Uche Ogbonnaya, assistant provost.

The highlight of the election was the resolution of the forum to sustain the organisation of the Ezimo Carnival, with a committee earlier inaugurated to see to the success of the event, headed by Comrade Kenneth Ugwueze, charged to map out the modalities for the sustenance of the carnival.

Ezimo community stakeholders, including the traditional rulers, some of their cabinet members and the councillor, Hon Charles Ezeugwu, graced the event.
