Barr Aloy Ejimakor, the special counsel to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, Wednesday, advised stakeholders in the South-East region of Nigeria to join hands and champion the emancipation struggles of his client or let him be.

The human rights lawyer made the call via his X. According to Ejimakor, “Kanu’s leadership is a big umbrella that embraces legions, including family, and indeed the entire Ndigbo.”

Ejimakor had in a post in 2021 stated that “for far too long, Kanu and IPOB have heroically borne the burden of defending the interests of the Eastern Nigeria. It has been a heavy burden borne in blood, honour and patriotism that anyone being hurt by Nigeria should either support Kanu and IPOB or leave them alone.”

He stated further that, “If Nigeria is hurting you, support Kanu and IPOB; otherwise, leave them alone.”

There are allegations that some leaders in South East are behind the continued incarceration of Kanu. Kanu enjoys mass followership in South-East Nigeria, especially among the youth who see him as the voice of the oppressed.

Our correspondent reports that Kanu is the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, and has been detained at the custody of the Department of State Services in Abuja since his rendition from Kenya to Nigeria in 2021. He is accused of terrorism.
