By Adadareporters

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, has pledged to provide a robust security strategy to ensure a peaceful and secure environment for the upcoming local government elections in the state.

The state commandant of the corps, Cmmdt Maku Olatunde, made this pledge on Tuesday when he received the newly inaugurated Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) members led by its chairman, Genevieve Osakwe.

He said NSCDC was fully prepared to provide adequate security coverage for the elections, including the deployment of personnel to polling units, collation centers, and other strategic locations.

In his words, “Your choice to seek collaboration is very apt. We will give you maximum support to ensure you carry out your task successfully. We will work closely with other security agencies to protect both sensitive and non-sensitive materials of your commission and prevent any form of violence or disruption.”

Olatunde reaffirmed the command’s commitment to providing the necessary security support for a secure and conducive environment for the electoral process.

Quoting him, “The importance of security in the electoral process cannot be overemphasized. We are ever ready in line with our core mandate of protecting critical national state and local government assets and infrastructure to collaborate with other sister security agencies to protect both human and material assets of your commission before, during and after the elections.”

Earlier, Genevieve Osakwe said the visit underscores the commission’s commitment to conducting credible, peaceful and transparent elections.

She said, “Security is a big issue when it comes to election, especially at the grass-roots level. That is why we have come to NSCDC as a key stakeholder in this activity to formally seek your partnership in ensuring security in preparation for the forth coming local government elections.”

She expressed appreciation in anticipation of NSCDC’s support and assured the commandant of ANSIEC’s cooperation as the state electoral body prepares to conduct the local government elections in the state in line with the provisions of the constitution and the Anambra State Electoral Law 2024.

Our correspondent reports that the election is billed for 28 September, 2024.
