Man Attempting To Commit Suicide Over N1m Debt Rescued In Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command, weekend, announced the rescue of a young man who attempted to kill himself over the debt of N1.2m debt.

The incident occurred on 23rd August, 2024, it was gathered.

The young man, identified as Alozie John, was after his arrest, debriefed, rendered medical assistance and kept in safe custody for monitoring,

Alozie John, 27, is from Isielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State but lives in Umunnachi, Dunukofia LGA, the state police public relations officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed.

Ikenga said, “A WhatsApp message was intercepted when he engaged the command in a chat that he drank a poisonous substance hoping for death because of indebtedness of one million, two hundred thousand naira to his supplier of livestock products.

“He further confessed that he deals in selling live chicken, adding that after taking the harmful chemical, he did not feel otherwise.”

His mother was contacted, and she is currently assisting the police with evaluation, references and transfer to a better facility for proper and other necessary care of the boy.
