A group, the Anambra Security Network (ASN), has called on the state government and wealthy individuals in the state to motivate operatives of the Anambra Vigilant Group (AVG) through improved welfare.
The suggestion was contained in a statement signed by the president of the group, Col Jude Obi (Rtd). The group expressed concern over the N100,000 paid to AVG operatives considering the economic hardship and risks associated with their job.
ASN made a case for salary increase for the operatives to the tune of between N200,000 and N300,000, and urged the government to provide new operational vehicles, arms, and ammunition, as well as insurance coverage and retraining for the operatives.
The statement cautioned that if the government failed to review the operatives’ salary by October 2024, they might embark on protests to draw attention to their economic plight.
ASN therefore advised Governor Soludo to create new security sectors “to curtail the resurgence of criminal activities in the state”, and commended AVG operatives for containing crimes in the state.
