Commuters in Nasarawa State have been advised to be vigilant in scrutinizing the standards of vehicles they board while embarking on journeys. They were also charged to observe safety measures as well as their drivers’ actions and inactions while in motion.
The advice was given by the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps RS4.3, Nasarawa Command, CC Lucie Samuel-Mhii, during a safety sensitisation show organised in the state aimed at curbing road crashes, especially these ember months.
CC Samuel-Mhii said the primary focus of the road show, with the theme, “enlightened to stay alive”, was to raise awareness regarding commuters’ safety during the ember months.
She said the initiative “targets commuters’ engagement in road safety by encouraging them to adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations; utilize seat belts and ensure all passengers do the same.”
She urged drivers to always maintain passengers’ manifests in all trips for easy traceability in cases of emergencies.
The event commenced at the Sector Command and traversed through Lafia, starting from Makurdi Road, moving to Jos Road, and concluding at the Yahaya Sabo Bus Terminal and Central Motor Park respectively.
The campaign was led by the Sector Commander, CC L Samuel-Mhii, alongside Ag. DCC Ops, CT Dooga, and representatives from various sister agencies and stakeholders, including ACP Abdullazeez Aliyu (NPF), and representatives of transport unions.
The attendees expressed gratitude for the informative nature of the road show, saying that they gained significant knowledge “rather than facing penalties for various offences”, signifying the event’s educational impact.
