Cholera Outbreak: Enugu Residents Charged To Be Vigilant

Enugu State residents have been warned to be cautious of a cholera outbreak in the state.

This was stated by the state ministry of health on Monday following the recent nationwide cholera outbreak, which has also affected the state.

According to the state commissioner for health, Prof Emmanuel Obi, the state, in collaboration with its partners, had initiated all necessary steps to de-escalate the situation following the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) guidelines.

Quoting him, “We, therefore, urge the public to be vigilant and practice good hand hygiene by washing hands regularly with soap and running water, or alternatively use hand sanitizers; use potable water from reliable sources; and intensify safe practices of food handling and preparation hygiene.”

He also advised the residents to use gloves and face masks and be careful when caring for sick individuals, and advised the public to report immediately any sudden case of watery diarrhea to the nearest healthcare facility.

He said, The Enugu State Ministry of Health is committed to informing and safeguarding the health and well-being of our citizens.
