The Vice President, Kashim Shettima, Tuesday, said property worth over N300bn belonging to government and private persons was destroyed during the bad governance protest held from August 1 to 10 this year.
The VP said this when he received the minors detained for participating in the protest. President Bola Tinubu had ordered their release after their arraignment at an Abuja Federal High Court.
Shettima said, “Despite incontrovertible digital video and photographic evidence of the actions some of which were uploaded by the actors themselves, the president as the father of the nation gave these young men another chance to become responsible citizens who will make a positive impact.”
He advised them to be good citizens and avoid falling prey to incitements to violence and the destruction of property.
Quoting him, “I admonish you, young men, not to allow yourselves to be used to perpetrate violence and destroy public and private property. More than N300bn was lost in the protests, consisting mainly of private property and loss of business.
“I will urge our governors and our elected representatives here, that cuts across political divides, what binds us together as citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria supersedes whatever divides.
“I will call our two governors and our representatives into a single cause, and ensure that these subjects are rehabilitated and reintegrated into our communities.”
