As the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, unveiled his vice-presidential candidate today, a cross-section of people in Enugu metropolis say Tinubu’s chances to victory are narrow.
Tinubu announced Senator Kashim Shetima, former governor of Borno State, as his running mate on Sunday.
A radio commentator, Ebere Okeke, said with Tinubu’s choice, APC has failed Nigerians again.
In his words, “They don’t care about the mood of the nation. A Muslim is finishing for eight years, and another man who is a Muslim is coming in; not only that but with a Muslim as deputy.
“Does it mean that there is no capable Christian candidate in the north as vice?
“It’s very unfortunate. Nigeria is highly polarized with religious and ethnic lines. Nobody should rule out religion in Nigeria politics.”
Comrade Chinweuba said, “Go and get your PVC. They can’t deceive us again. Islam is not the only religion in Nigeria.
“What we are seeing in the present administration has a lot of religious inclinations, especially killing of Christians. We will not allow one religion to determine the affairs of the nation.”
A vendor, Udoka mmadu, said that if care is not taken, Nigeria will plunge further into religious and political crises in 2023.
According to him, “Whoever tells you that a Muslim-Muslim ticket does not matter is telling a lie. Religion has a lot of defining factors in Nigeria, and the two major religions in the country should be balanced.”
