Reactions have continued to trail the emergence of former Borno governor Kashim Shettima as the running mate of Sen Ahmed Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the 2023 general elections.
A veteran journalist, Aniebo Nwam, Monday, said a muslim-muslim ticket ‘can fly’.
Aniebo stated this via his verified Facebook post. According to him, “Nigeria was founded on regionalism and secularity without which there would have been no independence in 1960. It was also founded on a tripod: East, West and North.
“For stability, there must be a balance between Christian and Muslim (both make up 95% of Nigeria), and among the three original regions. Even the current constitution provides for the Federal Character Principle.
“A northerner (Atiku) shouldn’t succeed a northerner as president. A southwesterner (Tinubu), apart from the Muslim-Muslim baggage, shouldn’t run against a southeasterner (Obi) after Obasanjo’s eight years and Osinbajo’s eight years.
“It’s the course of natural justice. We know tribes and tongues and religions don’t matter, but Nigeria has been marching backwards in all indices of development.
“It’s the SE’s turn to produce the next president. In 2023 Nigeria may have to choose between a president of SE extraction and a referendum on Biafra.”
