Mondays are observed as sit at home in most states in the Southeast in solidarity with Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Kanu is being tried over alleged running a proscribed organisation, jumping bail and treason.
Corn roasters at Emene in Enugu use Mondays to make brisk sales. Residents who are forced to stay at home use the opportunity to eat corn in conjunction with pears and coconut.
During the afternoons/evenings on Mondays, you could see residents rounding up corn roasters to buy.
Mike Eze, a corn lover, said, “It is an opportunity for working residents who may not have time on normal days to help themselves eating corn. I love eating corn, but due to the nature of my work, I hardly find time to enjoy the delicacy.”
Mama Ejima roasts corn around Block bus stop, before the Airport flyover at Emene.
She said, “We have customers all the time. But we make more sales on Mondays. The demand is much, and we get prepared ahead.”
