The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, Thursday, lashed into Mr Peter Obi for visiting former military president of Nigeria, Gen Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida.
Sowore disclosed this via his Twitter handle, where he also displayed a photograph where Obi was discussing with Babangida.
He wrote, ‘If you really hate drug barons and dealers, don’t promote one over another. None of them deserved to be called an ‘Elderstateman’. The reason investigative journo Dele Giwa was murdered by Babagndia was ‘Gloria Okon’. He too ran a drug cartel.
“Olusegun Obasanjo, Ibrahim Babangida, Aliyu Gusau, Abubakar Abdusalam and Ango Abdullahi are Mr Peter Obi’s ‘God fathers’; the people that ruined Nigeria are the ones fronting for him. May it never happen that we will work with these criminals! #WeCantContinueLikeThis.”
Mr Obi is the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections.
Recall that Mr Obi visited Babangida at his Minna haven in continuation of his presidential race consultations.
The June 12 of 1993 presidential election was won by Chief MKO Abiola. However, it was annulled by the Babangida administration before Abiola was declared winner by the nation’s electoral body led by Prof Humphrey Nwosu. Buhari ruled Nigeria from 1985 to1993 as military head of state.
The parties that contested the presidential election were the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the National Republic Convection (NRC), with MKO Abiola and
Bashir Tofa as their candidates respectively.
Babangida was later to leave office on August 26, 1993, paving the way for the Interim National Government (ING) of the late Chief Ernest Shonekan.
