The residents of Enugu on Friday defied the order given by a faction of IPOB, led by Simon Ekpa, to stay at home in honour of the 14 Imo youths that were allegedly killed by Ebube Agu.
News circulated Thursday that Simon Ekpa gave an order for total lockdown in the South East as a mark of respect for the late youths.
Adadainfo went around the street of Enugu and discovered that business activities were at their crescendo.
A shoe seller, Ikenna Nwobodo, said, Unlike other lockdown, today’s own is different. People are trooping out to go to their various business activities.
“The way we carry out this agitation these days marvels me. Just yesterday evening, the news came out that there is lockdown without thinking the arrangements that have been put in place by people today.”
A supporter of the mainstream IPOB, on condition of anonymity, said, “IPOB through Emma Powerful urged people to disregard such order coming from the agent of destabilization
“I’m happy that people mustered the courage this morning and came out.
“IPOB has one body. Once it didn’t come from them, regard it as a news from unscrupulous elements like Simon Ekpa who is living in Finland and causing problem here.
“Everybody is annoyed about the carnage that took place in Imo State. Imo people have registered their indignation by protesting against the gruesome killing, Why lockdown again?”
