A fatal auto crash has claimed over 30 passengers along Zaria-Kano expressway, near Hawan Mai Mashi in Makarfi local government area of Kaduna State.
The accident occurred on Thursday around 5:30pm.
Assistant Corps Commander in charge of Zaria Zone of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Abdurahman Yakasai, who confirmed the incident to journalists, said 12 of the passangers also sustained various degrees of injuries in the multiple accident, which involved two Toyota 18-seater buses and a Golf Volkswagen car.
He said, “They were rushed to Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Shika, Zaria by our men, while the remains of the deceased were also evacuated and deposited at the hospital morgue.”
The unit commander, who attributed the auto crash to dangerous overtaking and over speeding, said the FRSC was yet to ascertain the registration numbers of the vehicles because the vehicles were burnt beyond recognition.
He, however, assured that efforts were being made to obtain the manifest and additional details of the victims.
