Sit-At-Home, Rainfall Make Enugu A Ghost City

Today’s downpour in Enugu metropolis made the sit-at-home order declared by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in sympathy with their leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, quieter.

Hitherto citizens observed the order but in the afternoon families will go out to ‘find something to eat’.

Others however go to their farms to tend to their crops at least as an investment for tomorrow because going by the degree of inflation, more and more folks are going into poverty following the very harsh economic realities.

Just last week, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) published the current inflation figures showing that the Inflation rate has moved up to 18.6 %. Thus worsening an already bad situation.

The situation today is that the skies indicated that it was going to shower. At 10:00am the rain started, thereby discouraging many people from attempting to leave their homes even later. By mid-day the showers started which sealed the hopes of any one planning to even go to get bread for the family.

At the Thinker’s Corner area, a shop owner who identified himself as a pastor, said, “Today is really different. On other days, people come out to get consumables but today everywhere is quiet and even lonely. “
