Retired Major General Chris Eze, formerly a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, has resigned his membership of the ruling party to drum support for Mr Peter Obi’s Labour Party.
General Eze, ex-Nigeria’s ambassador to India, resigned his APC membership after Labour Party’s special delegate congress held Thursday in Enugu.
Our correspondent reported that former federal lawmaker Barr Chijioke Edeoga emerged the gubertorial candidate of the party in the state after polling 81 votes. The election was monitored by the national body of the party
Gen Eze cited the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the presidential candidate of the APC, Bola Tinubu, among the reasons that made him pitch tents with the Labour Party.
His resignation letter was addressed to the ward chairman of the APC at his Udunedem Ward in Udenu local government area of the state.
He also claimed in the letter that he ‘can no longer bear the dictatorial manner in which the party is run by its chairman in Enugu State.’
Quoting him, “I believe that His Excellency Peter Obi, Barr Chijioke Edoga and Barr Okey Ezea, all of the Labour Party, are the best candidates for president of Nigeria, governor of Enugu State and senator representing Enugu North senatorial zone respectively.
“I wish to thank the party (APC) and President Muhamadu Buhari for giving me the opportunity to serve as Nigeria’s high commissioner to India.”
