Dr Samuel Ortom, governor of Benue State, Wednesday, warned Benue youths not to use social media to destroy personalities and institutions, but to use it to find solutions to problems.
Ortom stated this when he played host to the National Union of Benue State Students, NUBESS, and Benue State Youth Parliament at the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi.
“Social media is a veritable platform in the 21st century; we can advance it to positively contribute in bringing solutions to some of the challenges confronting the society,” he said.
He further charged them to advance positives in their ongoing youth summit.
According to him, “As you brainstorm in your parliament sessions, bring forth any creative ideas and channel them through the commissioner for youths and sports development to add values to our governance.”
He commended their conduct during the #EndSARS protest across the country, adding that the state did not record any single incident of destruction. According to him, such peaceful conduct made him convene the Benue Youth Summit as a platform to address matters affecting youths.
On the strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Ortom said he would interface with the Benue State University branch of ASUU aimed at quitting their sympathy strike to enable students to return to school.
The two bodies jointly passed a vote of confidence on Gov Ortom for his youth development and security initiatives.
They also pledged to stand by him in his efforts at ensuring the security of lives and property in the state.
