The UEFA ceremony on Thursday in Istanbul saw Europe’s footballing body announce the groups for the upcoming 2022/23 Champions League campaign.
For the defending champions Real Madrid, they have been drawn in Group F, alongside RB Leipzig, Shakhtar Donetsk and Celtic.
Apart from the draws, UEFA also presented Karim Benzema with the Player of the Year award while Carlo Ancelotti was handed the prestigious Coach of the Year title, capping off an excellent evening for Los Blancos.
However, that was not the end of the story as several other Real Madrid players were handed major accolades, including Vinicius Junior.
The young forward was given the Young Player of the Season title after starring in Real Madrid’s Champions League triumph last season, scoring four goals and providing seven assists.
Other than that, UEFA also announced its Team of the Season, featuring no less than five Real Madrid players, which confirms earlier reports about the same.
The XI features goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, along with Benzema and Vinicius. Luka Modric is the other player to feature, along with new signing Antonio Rudiger, who had been the lynchpin for the Chelsea defence despite the Blues’ early elimination from the UCL last season.
Overall, it was a glorious evening for Real Madrid and its fans, who will be hoping the club continue its dominance not only in Spanish football but also on the continental scene in the new season.
