The 2023 general elections will be determined on individual merits and not political parties, says Pastor Dan-Beloved Anike, a governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party in Enugu State. Anike contested the PDP primary that was won by Barr Peter Mba.
Pastor Anike stated this Friday on the Dream 92.5 FM political programme in Enugu. He was reacting to a caller’s question on the chances of PDP’s Atiku Abubakar against Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi.
When asked how Atiku might fare against Obi, Anike said, “Peter Obi is PDP. He just left the party to contest the presidency in LP. I believe the wind that is blowing is around individuals and not political parties. It is agitations of the youth. The wind is in the entire nation.
“It is the quest for people to produce a better candidate. If you are good, you are good. If you are not, you can’t hide under a political party.”
On the chances of Mr Peter Mba, the PDP governorship candidate in Enugu State, Pastor Anike said, “We have a candidate we can defend. What will count in 2023 is the person. Peter Mba is the man. He is starting another narrative in Enugu State. He is coming from the private sector where he has made his marks. He is just 50.”
He commended the state governor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, for building higher institutions in the state.
Tochukwu Ude, another guber aspirant and former adviser to the state governor, who also featured on the programme, said, “Peter Mba is an international business player. He will raise the gross domestic product of Enugu State. He will attract direct foreign investors to the state. PDP may not have gotten it right all round, but Mr Peter is a new phase based on his antecedents.”
Udeh commended rural road initiatives of Gov Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi , which he said cuts across every part of the state.
Callers during the live interactive programme berated the scorecard of the PDP in Southeast since the inception of the current democratic dispensation.
