Nnamdi Kanu’s frontline lawyer Ifeanyi Ejiofor Sunday said his client would soon regain his freedom.
Kanu is the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, which is proscirbed in Nigeria.
He was arrested in Kenya and brought to Nigeria last August in a manner legal luminaries said violated international rules because Kanu travelled to Kenya as a British citizen.
The United Nations Working Group on Human Rights had ordered his release, although the federal government has not officially reacted.
Barr Ejiofor announced that Kanu would soon regain his freedom while formally announcing the release of ‘Mama Biafra’, Ukamaka Ejezie, nicknamed Nnamdi Kanu’s foster mother.
Ejiofor said Mrs Ejezie was released after about three months in detention at the custody of the Department of State Services. Recall that she was arrested on May 18, 2022 while attending a court hearing of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in Abuja.
According to Ejiofor, “I am delighted to inform you all that Mrs Ukamaka Ejezie (Mama Biafra) has regained her freedom. She is now out of the DSS dungeon. Thank thee ChukwuOkike Abiama for this huge success,” the lawyer said in a short news release.
“We are not relenting. All prisoners of conscience, including our indefatigable client, Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, will soon regain their freedom.”
