Wearing of miniskirts by pupils and students is banned in Anambra State, the state government announced Sunday.
Our correspondent reports that schools in the state are billed to resume the new academic session on Monday.
The ban was stated by the state education commissioner, Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, during an interactive meeting with education secretaries of public and mission schools held at the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board
hall, Awka.
She expressed dissatisfaction over the manner female pupils and students wear miniskirt uniforms to schools. She said it was ‘morally wrong and unacceptable to the standards desired for the children by the state government’.
She tasked school heads to encourage their females to wear skirts ‘covering knee length and not above the knee as was fast becoming the fashion’.
The commissioner charged the education secretaries to ensure schools comply with the directives to salvage the future of the pupils in the state, adding that school children should look ‘smart, well groomed, project positive vibes and not be indecently dressed for school’.
Quoting her, “A student should look smart, well groomed, project positive vibes and not be indecently dressed for school.”
