Prof Zainab Duke Abiola, human rights activist, will be arraigned for allegedly assaulting her female orderly, a police inspector, for refusing to carry out her (professor’s) home chores in line with her profession duties.
CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force PRO, stated this in an interview with Radio Nigeria on Friday. He condemned the act, adding that measures were being put in place to streamline operations of police personnel attached to some individuals to avoid abuses. He added that the professor would ‘be investigated to ascertain if truly she is a professor’.
Meanwhile, the inspector-general of police, IGP Usman Baba, has condemned the assault of the female police officer, Inspector Teju Moses, by her principal, one Prof Zainab Duke Abiola. Our correspondent gathered that the lady professor in collaboration with her housemaid, one Rebecca Enechido, and an unidentified male, currently at large, molested the inspector. The female cop was seen in a video bleeding, seated on the floor, and asking to be taken to the hospital for medical attention.
The IGP made the condemnation in a release from the Force Headquarters, Abuja. The release stated that Abiola, an Mbaise, Imo State-born activist, molested her orderly in company of some accomplices on Tuesday 20th September, 2022, at her residence in Garki, Abuja. The offence of the police inspector, it was gathered, was her refusal to carry out house chores for the Prof.
IGP Usman ordered express prosecution of the suspects. He also directed the arrest of the fleeing suspect.
According to the release, “It is pertinent to clarify that the suspect, Prof Zainab, who name-drops the IGP, his family members, and other officers in the top hierarchy of the force has no acquaintance with the police in any form as erroneously peddled on social media.
“The IGP, who similarly ordered the withdrawal of all police personnel attached to the professor, expressed consternation at the fact that an individual who claims to be an advocate for human rights could stoop so low to violate the rights of another individual, a police officer, tasked with ensuring her protection.”
