Former governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has predicted hard times for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the 2023 general elections.
PDP has been enmeshed in crisis since the emergence of Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Five governors of the party, led by Gov Nyesome Wike of Rivers State, want the national chairman of the party, Mr Iyorcha Ayu, to resign his position as chairman to pave the way for the emergence of a party chairman from the southern part of the state. They argue that both PDP’s presidential candidate and its national chairman ought not to come from the North.
Against this background, Mr Fayose, who also aspired for the PDP presidential ticket, tweeted on Sunday that, “I see more serious turbulence for the PDP, more than ever before. I have been silent all this while, hoping that things will get better.
“I advise we do more than we are doing now to resolve this crisis, as events in the days/weeks ahead may likely get messier. I pray this advice is not ignored.”
