Hon Chijioke Edeoga, the Labour Party governorship candidate in Enugu State in 2023, will not be attending the convocation of Enugu State University of Science and Technology scheduled for today because it coincided with the burial of some natives of his community Eha-Amufu, who were killed recently by suspected herders.
Edeoga is one of the recipients of the master’s degree in public administration during the convocation.
According to George Ndubeze Ugwu,
spokesman, Chijioke Edeoga Campaign Organization, Edeoga’s not going to receive his master’s degree is ‘a mark of respect to those killed by suspected herdsmen at Eha-Amufu, Isi-Uzo local government area and other parts of the state last week’.
Ugwu said, “The LP candidate will instead be at Eha-Amufu to attend the burial of the victims holding today, same time as the convocation.
“Hon Edeoga regrets the inconveniences caused by the sudden change.”
Recall that Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State some days ago visited the crisis-ravaged villages of Aguamaede and Mgbuji communities in Eha-Amufu to get first-hand information about the killings, which claimed many lives and displaced many.
He was accompanied by the state commissioner of police, CP Ahmed Ammani; the garrison commander, 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Brig Gen M.K. Ibrahim, and the Anglican bishop of Nike Diocese, Rt Rev Dr Christian Onyeka Onyia.
They visited Mgbuji community, different forests, markets, village squares and other locations in Eha-Amufu where he interacted with the indigenes to ascertain the remote cause of the recent crisis in the community with a view to addressing the lingering issues in the area.
He had earlier donated N10 million to cater for the immediate needs of the victims.
