One David Oluchkwu has bagged four-months in prison for impersonating an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and extorting motorists.
He was convicted by the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (mobile) Court on two counts of ‘conduct likely to cause breach of peace’ and ‘impersonation’. The court sat at Bolade, Oshodi on Monday, 19th of December, 2022.
The conviction was announced by the director, public affairs and enlightenment department of LASTMA, Mr Adebayo Taofiq, in a press statement.
He said Magistrate Adesanya Ademola sentenced Oluchkwu without any option of fine after he pleaded ‘guilty’.
According to the release, the prosecutor, Barrister Agbaje Oladotun, said the offences levied against the convict contravened Section 168 (D) and Section 78 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State (2015) respectively.
In a reaction, LASTMA general manager, Mr Bolaji Oreagba, said the conviction would serve as a deterrent to other similar offenders.
He said, “Our Surveillance and Intelligence Unit which has now been fully restructured would continue to hunt for other bad elements disturbing the peace of the society.”
