Registration of first year students of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, going on at Ekpo Refectory inside the institution has been temporarily put on hold as the institution welcomes its alumunus, Mr Peter Obi.
Obi is the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections. A release signed by his campaign team stated that he will arrive at the Nsukka campus of UNN at 11am today for a town-hall meeting, after which he will proceed to Enugu campus of the university for another meeting before eventually moving to the Okpara Square for his grand-rally.
Adadareporters gathered that Mr Obi, 61, read Philosophy at UNN in 1980s.
The suspension of fresh students’ registration was because Ekpo Ref is the same venue for the exercise.
One of them said, “This is where we have been doing the registration. We are told that Obi will use the venue briefly. It is a temporary suspension. We are also happy to host him today.”
Nkechi, a second year student, said, “I want to see him live. I am reading philosophy, so seeing him will be an inspiration. He will also be an asset to UNN if he wins the presidency because this is where he started his journey.
“People have come to like him beyond all expectations. We pray for his success at the 2023 polls.”
There is however no official pronouncement that fresh students’ registration was put off because of Mr Obi.
