Amb George Obiozor, president general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, will be buried on Friday, February 10, 2023, in his home town in Awo-Omamma, Imo State.
This was disclosed by the National Executive Council of the pan-Igbo group in Enugu weekend after an emergency meeting.
Ohanaeze’s secretary general, Okey Emuchay, said the burial programmes would include a valedictory session at the national secretariat and other activities at the National Institute of International Affairs, Victoria Island, Lagos and Abuja.
The burial committee, he said, would be chaired by Gary Enwo-Igariwey, former president-general of Ohanaeze, while the president general of Ohanaeze, Imo State, Chief I.C. Ihemedu, will serve as secretary.
Members of NEC and other stakeholders across the seven states of Ohanaeze will also form the burial committee, he added.
Emuchay also announced that the deputy PG of Ohanaeze, Chief Joel Kroham, who died last August, would be laid to rest on February 4, 2023, in Rivers State, adding that it would be the first time Ohanaeze would lose its president general and deputy president general within the same time.
In his words, “A central planning committee will come up together with sub-committees. The chairman and the secretary will handle that.
“The NEC however wants to assure that the ship of Ohanaeze is in safe hands. We shall pass through this very difficult period and everything will be done to ensure that the late Obiozor, his deputy and Mbazuilke Amaechi who also died on November 1, 2022, are accorded the dignity and honour that they deserve.”
Our correspodent reports that Amb Obiozor, who emerged the 10th president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo on January 9, 2021, died in December 2022 at the age of 80.
