Mr Kelvin Chibuzor Chukwu, younger brother of Barr Oyibo Chukwu, erstwhile candidate of the Labour Party for Enugu East senatorial candidate, Sunday, emerged the party’s standard-bearer for the March 11 rescheduled polls.
Chibuzor was declared winner by the national vice chairman (South-East) of Labour Party, Chief Innocent Okeke, in an election supervised by two officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
It would be recalled that Oyibo Chukwu was allegedly shot dead alongside five others, and set ablaze by unknown assailants. The incident happened along Amaechi-Agbani road in Enugu South senatorial district on Feb. 22.
His death informed the rescheduling of the senatorial election of the zone from Feb 25 to March 11. He will be slugging it out with the likes of incumbent Sen Chimaroke Nnamani of the Peoples Democratic Party, a former governor of the state.
The victorious Chukwu promised to fulfill the manifestoes of his late brother, and solicited votes of the electorate ahead of the polls.
Our correspondent reports that Labour Party won seven out of the state’s eight Federal House of Representatives seats, with PDP winning one. LP’s Barr Okey Ezea also won Enugu North senatorial election, defeating incumbent governor Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
