Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Wednesday, explained why his administration is reinstating the local government workers he sacked in 2017.
The affected workers were employed by former governor Gabriel Suswan in 2011.
The affected workers on Wednesday, 22nd June, 2022, converged on office of the Local Government Service Commission (LGSC), Makurdi, to undergo screening for reinstatement.
Ortom told.newamwn that, “It became a legal matter and so we opted to settle out of court. We also discovered that many people have retired and many are dead and we felt that since it became a legal matter, we should confirm those who were laid off.
“Due process was not followed in the recruitment and it had to be stopped. It was an illegal arrangement that was masterminded by not necessarily the past administration but some appointees in his government who came and sorted names and insisted that the 2011 recruitment be nullified.”
