An author and public affairs analyst, Moses Eze, Monday, called for a proper scrutiny of the credentials of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Ahmed Bola Tinubu.
Eze’s call followed Tinubu’s admission that he neither attended primary nor secondary school. He also claimed that unknown soldiers stole his degrees.
Eze told Adadareporters in Enugu that, “It’s high time we got to know where Nigeria’s problems are coming from. If indeed Tinubu didn’t possess all these, how did he become a senator, governor and other high-profile positions he had held? Who cleared him?”
A commentator on national issues, Oliver Ngwoke, said, “While Nigerians are still ruing how the Supreme Court ruled that Buhari’s affidavit is equivalent to a school certificate, now Tinubu has come with another national humiliation. If he maneuvers his way to the presidency under any guise, especially if courts rule in his favour that his past offices qualify him, he would have set precedence in the nation’s judiciary. It will mean doom for this country. History will never forgive us.”
Meanwhile, Chief Femi Aribisala, a scholar, weekend, provided mindboggling perspectives to Bola Tinubu’s educational background.
According to him, “Bola Tinubu said he attended St Paul’s School, Aroloya, Lagos, but the school never existed. He said he attended Government College, Ibadan (GCI), from 1965 to 1968. I was in GCI from 1962 to 1968, and Tinubu was not there. The Old Boys’ Association of GCI also debunked Tinubu’s claims.
“He also claimed in his 1999 INEC form that he attended Richard Daley College, Chicago, from 1969 to 1971, but there is no evidence of this. He also did not attend the University of Chicago between 1972 and 1976.
“The case filed in court by Dominic Adegbola against Tinubu for perjury on these counts was only struck out because the judge ruled that the mandatory requirement of the law is that such an application must be filed within three months when the alleged fraudulent act was detected.
“Tinubu’s lawyer who defended him on the basis of this technicality was none other than Yemi Osinbajo. He was rewarded with the vice presidency of Nigeria.”
