The special counsel to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Barr Aloy Ejimakor, Tuesday, expressed sadness over the refusal of Justice Binta Nyako of a Federal High Court, Abuja, to grant his client bail.
Ejimakor in a tweet stated that, “Sadly, the judge has denied bail to #MNK on grounds that ‘for 4 years, nothing was filed’ in her court to explain why Onyendu did not attend his trial. She said she is open to considering a new application for bail, and she granted a stay of the criminal proceedings.”
Meanwhile, reactions have trailed the refusal of Justice Nyako to grant Mazi Kanu bail.
A concerned citizen, via his Twitter handle @agbakamni, wrote, “At this juncture, I call on IPOB central command to ban any political parties in BIAFRA REPUBLIC from any kind of campaign whatsoever in BIAFRA soil.”
@meskis tweeted, “Totall nonsense, stop turning South East to a terrorist den.”
A retired teacher in Awka, Anambra State, Solomon Eya, told our correspondent that, “I think this is politically motivated. The handwriting is on the wall.
“Interests that don’t want progress in the South East will never want peace to reign. They know that if they release him, peace will be restored in our region. They won’t want that. Let our leaders wake up. The sponsors Unknown Gunmen will have reasons to continue wrecking havocs on us in the guise of IPOB.”
An analyst, Dr Tony Urama, said, “Buhari said it all during his discussion with UK PM Boris Johnson. He covertly revealed that politics determines whatever decision the trail judge will take on Nnamdi Kanu.”
Meanwhile, Justice Nyako adjourned the trial to Nov 14. She also advised Kanu’s lawyers to appeal for his bail at the Court of Appeal if they so wish.
