The sum of two billion and one hundred million (N2,100,000,000) naira was yesterday presented to the Legislative Council of Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State for consideration and approval for the 2022 fiscal year.
The council chairman, Hon Chinedu Onyeagba, did the presentation in a joint session at the council headquarters, Oji.
Tagged ‘Budget of strategic development’, Hon Onyeagba said the proposed budget would ‘meet the needs of our people and vigorously pursue our projects in line with the agenda of Oji River LGA and the state’.
According to him, “The 2022 budget will focus on improvement of service delivery, growth of our rural economy and bring about social-economic empowerment and aggressive infrastructural development which have already started with the painting of the local government headquarters, repairing of heavy duty machines (tractor, bulldozer, grader and roller), improvement of the agricultural and health sectors, as well as security and human capacity.”
A breakdown of the proposed budget shows that the recurrent expenditure is N1, 684,560,000 while the capital expenditure is N415, 440,000, representing 20% of the budget.
The chairman said the proposed budget ‘represents a clear step towards a ‘Greater Oji River’, adding that he would not relent in serving Oji River people diligently.
The leader of the council’s legislature, Mrs Eucharia Nwokolo, pledged that the lawmakers would give it a speedy consideration.
The majority leader, Hon Ifeanyi Obiakor, said the proposed budget would receive the required attention. He also said the legislators would ‘synergise with the executive of the council’ to ensure service delivery.
The presentation was witnessed by key office-holders of the LGA.
