Gov Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has been bestowed with the sonship of Nkanu East LGA following the emergence of Barr Peter Mba as the governorshisp candidate of the PDP for the state in 2023 elections.
Mba is from Owo community in the LGA. He was Gov Ugwuanyi’s favorite during the PDP guber primaries.
The bestowal was announced Friday when Barr Mba led some Nkanu stakeholders on a visit to Gov Ugwuanyi at the Enugu Government House.
The stakeholders included the clergy, traditional rulers, as well as present and former public office-holders from the area.
They appreciated the governor for keeping faith with the principles of equity in the zoning of the governorship position to Enugu East senatorial district, down to Nkanu East LGA, adding that Nkanu East LGA ‘is the least developed in Enugu State’.
The stakeholders described Barr Mbah as ‘as a thorough bred, peaceful, humble, God-fearing, intelligent, visionary and successful entrepreneur, with sound track record in both private and public dealings’.
Barr Mbah said at the event that, “Our gifts here will not be enough to show you gratitude. We have simply come here with our sense of gratitude and from our hearts to tell you that we are bestowing on you the sonship of Nkanu East.”
Gov Ugwuanyi expressed optimism that Barr Mbah would do well in office if elected as governor of Enugu State.
He prayed that Barr Mba’s administration would surpass his (Gov Ugwuanyi’s) records.
Present at the event include the speaker of Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Edward Ubosi; the state chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rt Rev Emmanuel Edeh; the deputy chairman of the council, Hon Martins Ndubuisi Agbo; the PDP candidate for Nkanu East Constituency, Hon Okey Mbah, and former council chairmen.
