A delegate participating in the ongoing convention of the All Progressives Congress holding in Abuja has died some hours ahead of the polls, Adadareporters gathered.
The deceased, identified as Alhaji Isa Baba Buji, came from Buji Local Government Area (LGA) of Jigawa State.
The cause of his demise has not been established as at press time. He was 61 years old, a source said.
In a reaction, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, an aspirant to the party’s presidential ticket, expressed shock over the death.
Prof Osinbajo, in a statement by his media aide, Laolu Akande, sympathised with the people of Jigawa State over the loss. He also prayed for the repose of the soul of the departed.
Our correspondent covering the event in Abuja reports that the late Buji is among the 2,322 delegates from 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) who are participating in the convention.
The convention will produce the party’s presidential standard-bearer ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
