The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) should investigate the culpability of the Independent National Electoral Commission following its alleged refusal to obey the Supreme Court ruling on the national chairmanship of APGA.
The national president of Ohanaeze Youth Council, Igboayaka O Igboayaka, demanded this in a release.
His release followed bribery and corruption allegations levelled against the INEC hierarchy in some quarters over the apex court ruling.
The council condemned the alleged conspiracy of INEC chairman Mahmood Yakubu to undermine the Supreme Court’s judgement delivered by Hon Justice Mary Ukaego Peter-Odili in suit number SC/CV/686/2021 between Jude Okeke vs All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and others, which declared Chief Edozie Njoku as the authentic national chairman of APGA.
Comrade Igboayaka, in a release, claimed that, “Prof Yakubu Mahmood in connivance with Festus Okoye and other directors in INEC has been compromised.
“They have refused to issue Chief Njoku his letter of recognition because recognizing him would mean an end to their illicit business with Ozonkpu Victor Oye.
“We have gathered that INEC ignored the Supreme Court judgement since May 9, 2022 so that Oye can milk the ignorant aspirants and share the proceeds with them at the agreed 60/40 percent sharing formula..”
The council, therefore, implored the EFCC to commence immediate investigations of Prof Yakubu Mahmood, stressing that ‘his refusal to obey the Supreme Court judgement is causing public opprobrium’.
He said, “It is now two months that the Supreme Court declared Chief Edozie Njoku as the authentic national chairman of APGA, but the ostrich stance of Prof Yakubu Mahmood-led INEC is an indication that he is under a heavy monetary inducement to do the bidding of Ozonkpu Victor Oye.
“It’s now very expedient and necessary that EFCC quickly investigate Prof Yakubu Mahmood, Festus Okoye and their agents in INEC.
“A situation where Ozonkpu Victor Oye and his cronies boast publicly of having the INEC chairman in his pocket is abominable.”
