By Our Correspondent

A middle-aged man, one Wisdom Onu, who claims to be a native of Ohafia in Abia State, is currently in the custody of security agencies after being nabbed while stealing electricity cables at the Nsukka campus of the University of Nigeria.

Onu was arrested about a week ago after his neferious activities were observed by farmers close to where he was operating. Our correspondent was told that investigations into his case are ongoing.

An eyewitness said, “It was the tip-off from the farmers that led to his arrest. He used a room in Okpara Hall of the university as his hideout.

“Okpara Hall is a female hostel. How he made his way into a locked female hostel beats imagination.”

A farmer close to where it happened said, “His illegal dealings were made smooth by the ongoing strike action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities. He saw that nobody is occupying the hostel, and converted one of them as his base for his stealing.”

Onu, it was gathered, is married and lives with his family at Obukpa, a community close to UNN.

Knife, driller, branded cap, nose mask, hand gloves, cables of various sizes, cutting saw, pliers and torch-light were among the items recovered from him.

A video clip in circulation shows those interrogating him saying that the suspect had been staying in the hostel for a long time unnoticed.
