New Garriki is along Enugu-Porthacourt expressway in Enugu metropolis. It is a place populated by Hausas.
The northerners at Garriki sell cows, goats and other animals. This makes the place a beehive of activities.
There is also a brothel where young ladies use their feminine prowess to make both ends meet.
A visit to the place by Adadainfo showed that ladies between the ages of 16 and 20 hustle to make money via prostitution.
Our reporter interracted with one of them. She gave birth to a premature baby, it was gathered. She is from Amodo in Nkanu West Local Government of Enugu State.
She said, “I joined prostitution at sixteen because I am from a poor family. Many are in this business because of the economy.
“Otherwise, how will somebody live her father’s house to live in a ghetto where all manners of criminal activities take place.
“This ghetto is the worst, no regulations. No matter how small you are, they will welcome you.
“As you can see, many girls from Benue, Enugu and River states find here as a business centre.
“You don’t blame people. Instead of dying of hunger or living in abject poverty, is it not better you use what you have and get what you want?”
A chemist shopowner within the premises, on condition of anonymity, said, “It is outrageous how young girls troop into prostitution
“Ebonyi people are enormous. They were not known for this before. They were known for agriculture, but the reverse is the case.
“The state government should create jobs and also enter into sensitization, otherwise the current generation will not know anything about morality.
“Those who say it is because of poverty is wrong. It is laziness.”
