Fresh corn is cooked or roasted at the New Artisan Market by the flyover on the Enugu-Portharcourt expressway, Independence Layout, Enugu.
During the rainy season as we are currently experiencing, fresh corn is hot a business there.
Lovers of corn converge on the spot to enjoy fresh corn of their choices, either boiled or roasted. It is eaten with pears or coconut as one prefers. It is a delicacy. Customers park their cars to relish it. Some opt for take-away.
Corn contains vitamin A C, B1, B5 and is a good source of carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin which are good for eye health and helps prevent lens damage that leads to cataract.
Adadainfo was there and discovered that the business is booming. Mrs Josephine Egwueji is one of the women engaged in the business.
According to her, “The business is rewarding and I am also a farmer. So I also harvest from my farm and sell here, boiled or roasted.”
Her customer, Ichie Ndukaku Ezeamanso, said that he usually comes to enjoy fresh corn at the spot.
Another lady selling fresh corn at the market is Emmanuella Chinonso. She said she started the business this year- 2022. She said, “I am happy with the business.”
Chinonso said she ‘buys the fresh corn from nearby communities near Enugu as well as New Market and Eke Obinagu’ in Emene, near Enugu.
The business is not only for females as Papa Prince is also involved.
