Ebonyi South: Gov Umahi Dangles As Agom-Eze Files Suit Over Fresh Primaries

By Adadainfo

Mrs Ann Agom-Eze, the aspirant who came second in the primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Ebonyi South senatorial district, Thursday, said she is not part of the purported APC fresh primary election scheduled for Sunday, 31st, July, 2022.

The hierarchy of the party in the state allegedly fixed the primary to pave way for embattled Gov Dave Umahi to run for the senatorial election in 2023.

Umahi’s brother, Augustine, who won the primaries, had withdrawn for the governor to pick the ticket. The move became a threat when INEC did not publish the name of the APC candidate for the district.
Mrs Agom-Eze said with the voluntary withdrawal of Chief Augustine Umahi, she remained the bonafide candidate of the party for the senatorial election.

She stated that the recent judgement of the Federal High Court in Abakaliki, in the suit filed by Governor David Umahi on the Ebonyi South APC ticket, was in her favour.

Her statement read in part, “I have keenly noted all the discussions, claims, outbursts, assertions, and accusations on the above matter, particularly with respect to my person and my role in the matter, and wish to state as follows:

“That it was Governor David Umahi that went to court; I only joined the suit as it affects me, and erroneous claims made against my person.

“That although the judgment of Hon Justice Riman of the Federal High Court, Abakaliki, was partly in my favour, I have filed an appeal in the Court of Appeal to seek remedy over the order of the court for fresh primaries to admit new aspirants.

“That the general public and all concerned should be mindful of the fact that this matter is pending in the court of law, and as such I expect all concerned to be patient and stay all actions and allow the matter to run its course in the court of law. I urge my supporters to remain calm and law-abiding.”
