Ogbunike in Anambra State has been thrown into outrage over the alleged killing of one of the sisters of celebrated novelist Chimamanda Adichie.
According to reports, the incident happened in Ogbunike, Oyi Local government area of Anambra State on July 19, 2022 with out cause.
The state police spokesman Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the incident noting that investigations had already commensed on the matter while some of his men had been deployed to the community to maintain law and order.
The husband of the late Nkiru Okoye, Mr Emenike Okoye said that he was preparing to go to work while his late wife was preparing to go for a meeting in her home in abba when assailants stormed their house between 7-8am overpowered them and beat them to stupor and left.
They later returned when their children had gone to school with dangerous weapons including axe. “They dragged my wife outside the house hit her with an axe and chair and she fell down and died.
They broke my hand when I resisted being dragged outside hitting me with axe all over my body until I passed out.
According to him ” I am deeply in pain, my hand is broken, I cannot stand or sit down, I need serious medical attention.”
Some members of Ogbunike Daughters Association Mrs Nkechi Nkechinyeru and Ms Ogochukwu Okoye described the situation as an abomination.
The younger brother of late Nkiru Okoye, Mr Chidiebele Okelue appealed to the Commissioner of police, Inspector General of police and other security agencies to help in bringing the culprits to book.
