The killing of a Nigerian by an Italian in Rome has been condemned. Persons who spoke to Adadareporters.com in Enugu urged President Muhammad Buhari to use his good offices to find justice for the deceased.

Okey Okechukwu, a diplomat, said, “Nigerians are becoming endangered across the world. One would have expected President Buhari to have reached out to his Italian president, but here we are: no words about 24 hours after the gruesome murder of a bona fide Nigerian.”

For Jerome Ude, a farmer, “Many Nigerians run to overseas because home is lost to criminals. Yet, they are unsafe over there. My sympathies to the dead. I read that the natives were filming and making jest of him when he was gasping for breath.”

The Nigerian Embassy in Rome, weekend, had confirmed the brutal killing of one Alike Ogorchukwu, based in Italy.

“Ogorchukwu, 39-year-old Nigerian citizen, was beaten to death by an Italian man on Friday 29th July, 2022, in Civitanova Marche city, located in the Province of Macerata, Marche Region of Italy,” the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission tweeted on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Mfawa Omini Abam, ambassador of Nigeria to Italy, has vowed to prosecute the suspect. The ambassador also commiserated with the deceased’s wife, Charity.

According to the embassy, “His Excellency has directed the provision of immediate consular assistance as appropriate.

“The Embassy is currently collaborating with relevant Italian authorities to ensure justice is served and to provide succour to the family of the deceased.

“Ambassador Abam wishes to enjoin members of the Nigerian community in Italy to remain calm and to refrain from taking laws into their hands.

“His Excellency wishes to reassure Nigerians in Italy that citizen’s diplomacy remained the key thrust of his administration and will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that all Nigerians in Italy receive timely, efficient and professional consular services.”
