Anambra Begins Distribution Of Coconut, Palm Seedlings To Boost Agriculture

The Anambra State government, Tuesday, announced the constitution of a committee to map out strategies for the distribution of the millions of coconut and palm seedlings which it procured to boost agricultural production in the state.

The committee is drawn from the three senatorial zones of the state.

This was contained in a statement released by the commissioner for information, Mr Paul Nwosu.

The decision was a part of resolutions of the state Executive Council meeting held at Government House, Awka.

According to the statement, the constitution of the committee is in line with the government’s policy to re-enact the prosperous era of Chief Michael Okpara in the old Eastern region, when cash crops were the main source of revenue

Also, ANSEC has formally terminated the contract awarded to Messrs Rockland Development Ltd to construct the Ministry of Housing main office complex at Jerome Udorji Secretariat, Awka, valued at thirty-three million, two hundred and fifty three thousand, one hundred and nineteen naira and sixty six Kobo, #33,253,119,66k.

It said the contract was cancelled due to lack of execution of the job on the part of the contractor and ANSEC has resolved to take necessary steps to recover the said amount paid to the contractor.

The statement stated that the attorney general of the state presented a memo that seeks to reform major aspects of the dispensation of justice in the area.

ANSEC was also informed that the state ministry of justice is working to establish designated courts to ‘expeditiously dispense with sexual related offences’.
