Policemen, Navy, Drivers, Expatriates Killed In Kogi Ambush

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers, Friday evening, killed two police inspectors, a naval officer, two drivers and two expatriates at Niger Bridge in Ajaokuta, Kogi State.

The victims worked for the West Africa Ceramics Company, Ajaokuta, our reporter heard. The expatriates are Indians, a source stated.

The state police public relations officer, SP William Ovye Aya, stated this in a press release.

The gunmen ambushed the coaster bus that was carrying them, and killed them in the ensuing gunfire, Aya said.

According to him, the killers fled when the area commander and a detachment of military in the area reinforced to the scene of incident.

Aya said the state commissioner of police, CP Edward Egbuka, had visited the scene.

The statement said the CP ordered the deployment of additional operational assets consisting of operatives of the Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit, Quick Response Unit, State Intelligence Bureau in synergy with other security agencies to restore normalcy in the area.
